A message from Elisabetta, volunteer nurse of the Italian Red Cross, San Donato Milanese, to the Italian Community of St Louis:
To my fellow Italians in St Louis, I will attempt to write a few words even though my heart is full of emotions and words of gratitude for all of you, so the words will actually be more than just a few. Over the course of not many hours, your initiative has already raised a very important amount of money! Thank you for your generosity, for your closeness, for your affection. My name is Elisabetta and I have been an Italian Red Cross volunteer for over 20 years. I work in ambulances where we provide emergency services and other forms of assistance. Never as in this last month have I been afraid of doing what I’ve been doing for a lifetime; never would I have imagined that Italy, my country and Milan, my city, could go through this type of tragedy. In a matter of days the situation has degenerated, in the hospitals the intensive care units are full of Covid-19 patients and we are starting to run out of steam and resources. We volunteers are engaged in the transportation of the ill and we do have some individual protective gear, but the biggest fear right now is that supplies and manpower won’t be enough to cover this emergency. Your help is immense and I am so grateful to you for it. I hope to be able to meet you all and hug each and every one of you in person one day. Be brave and careful, always! Siate coraggiosi e attenti, sempre! PRESS RELEASE: 4 April 2020
The Italian Community of St Louis is inviting all St Louisans to help support the selfless health personnel and volunteers who are working around the clock at the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in Northern Italy. Money raised will be transferred to the Croce Rossa Italiana - San Donato Milanese, a local branch of the Italian Red Cross that is coordinating efforts to combat the outbreak in several hard-hit areas in and around Milan. Money will be used to buy critical equipment and materials, in particular ffp ⅔ masks, surgery masks, gloves, disinfectant and tyvek personal protective equipment. The coronavirus outbreak tearing through Italy has turned a nation that is known for donating medical expertise and equipment abroad into a country in need. Hospitals in hard-hit regions like Lombardy are at a saturation point. Health workers are describing immense pressure and war-like conditions in the fight to treat patients. Every day is a scramble to find more intensive care beds for the critically ill, as well as medicines and basic protective equipment, including masks and gloves. Any contribution, big or small, will make a huge difference. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and please spread the word! Italy needs help NOW. #westandwithitaly #siamoconvoi #covid19 #unitaliacheaiuta To make a donation, please visit our gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/we-stand-with-italy-coronavirus Visit the Croce Rossa Italiana - Comitato di San Donato Milanese Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cri.sandonatomilanese/ For questions and messages of support: Elisabetta Salvati, volunteer nurse, CRI Comitato di San Donato Milanese [email protected] With gratitude, The Italian Community of St Louis St Louis - Bologna Sister Cities Club Italiano Per Piacere |
